Mugi cha or barely roasted tea
On a trip to Japan, we had the opportunity to taste Mugi cha (麦 茶) or better known here as barley tea, made from roasted barley, very popular in Japan during summers.
We can find two kinds of formats: grain or more commonly in tea bags (1 per liter of water for approx.)
You can have it hot or cold. In the latter case we have tasted by a direct infusion into ice water.
What is taste? Its intense flavor slightly reminiscent of coffee, but yes, 100% free of caffeine and among its many beneficial properties, helps reduce stress and cleanse the body.
You can buy it at specialty stores or online shops.
